Library reading challenge in Victoria and Tasmania
Eight state-level prizes are available: a book bundle, book hamper, headphones and Kobo eReader in both Victoria and Tasmania.
Warm Winter Read turns ordinary winter reading into four progressive prize levels for public-library members in Victoria and Tasmania. Entrants can qualify by reviewing books or simply recording the number of days they read.
A participant does not have to write a long review for every book. The rules allow either book ratings and reviews or a simple count of reading days, so the challenge can suit readers who prefer short activity logs.
Digital entrants use ReadBooks, while participating library branches can supply a paper form. The two routes have different final submission dates, which should not be confused.
Level one requires one book rating or review, or five reading days. Level two rises to three books or ten days; level three requires six books or twenty days; and level four requires nine books or forty-five days.
Reaching a higher level does not change the prize attached to a lower level. The state draws award a book bundle, book hamper, headphones and Kobo eReader in the published order.
Winners are contacted by the library service connected with their entry and are told which branch will handle redemption. Travel or other incidental collection costs are not included.
The prize cannot be exchanged for cash or transferred. It must be collected and used as stated by October 31, otherwise it can be forfeited.
Because reading activity accumulates over several weeks, entrants may return to the tracker after every book or reading session. That makes the deadline and current prize level useful information to check more than once.
A participant aiming for the Kobo level should count progress early rather than trying to record forty-five days at the end of August.
Public-library members in Victoria and Tasmania who are over 16; entrants aged 16 to 18 need parent or guardian permission.
No. You can qualify by submitting ratings or reviews, or by tracking the required number of reading days.
Nine book ratings or reviews, or forty-five tracked reading days.
Four prize levels in each of the two participating states, for eight state-level prizes in total.
August 31, 2026. Paper forms can be returned to a participating library by September 14.
The eligibility, reading thresholds and prize levels were checked against the official Warm Winter Read 2026 terms on June 25, 2026.
The organiser’s current official terms take precedence if dates, fulfilment details or eligibility are later corrected.
